Burslem Port work parties for February

Dear all

Last week we hosted our first work party of the year, cutting back and burning vegetation near to the Luke Street entrance to the site, as well as doing a litter pick along the whole site. Thanks to the volunteers who turned up and made this a successful day, even though the weather did its best to put out our bonfire in the morning!

Work party 6th January

Dear all

Apologies for the late notice but I'm afraid that tomorrow's work party has been cancelled. Along with, it seems, half the nation I am recovering from the flu virus that is going around and am not yet up to spending a full day outdoors. Unfortunately I've not been able to arrange for someone else to lead the group so we will have to call it off.

Thanks to everyone who came to the work party on 3rd December. This was a well-attended work party and we got lots done.

Summer update

Over the past couple of months our volunteers have concentrated on clearing the area closest to the Trent & Mersey Canal. We have recently been granted a sum by Stoke-on-Trent City Council to allow us to improve access to the site and this link is the one we plan to concentrate on. There is not a formal footpath in this area and the ground is very uneven at present but is an attractive and well-used link from Middleport, through our site, to the network of footpaths at the Grange and Festival Park.

Spring 2017 update

We've had a busy few months at Burslem Port. As our Facebook followers will know, recent work parties have cleared vegetation at the junction with the Trent & Mersey Canal, through the narrows section and near to the warehouse. In March we also joined forces with Middleport Matters for the annual spring clean across the area.

New Year update

Firstly a very Happy New Year to all of our friends and supporters. Some of you will be receiving this newsletter for the first time as our mailing list has recently been updated with the contact details of people who have got in touch at events or via the website. Thank you for expressing your support.

October update

Dear Burslem Port supporter

Work parties

Please note that there will not be a work party this coming Tuesday, 25th October. Unfortunately although we have a number of potential volunteers we do not have a leader available. The next events will be Saturday 5th and Tuesday 22nd November. These are confirmed and Steve will be leading.

June update

Dear Burslem Port supporter

We've had another busy month, and it was great to welcome new volunteers at several of our work parties in May. As I write this, the Etruria Canals Festival has just come to an end. It it is always good to talk with people who are interested in our project.
