This site marks the terminus of both the original and restored Burslem Branch Canal. The layout will be similar but an enlarged basin will be provided at the new terminus. This area is seen as a commercial rather than public area, being used for boat building, maintenance, storage etc. The area will be accessed by boaters via a new lift/swing bridge from the wharf area. warehouse buildings will be refurbished or replaced to allow them to be used for boat building/repair activities.
Subsidence means that the original bridge now has only 1m clearance above the waterline. Care will be taken to ensure that original features are preserved where possible.
The canal will follow the original line beside the modern warehouse building to a new basin, which will fill the available space. A smaller basin with slipway may be provided to the south end of the site, just after the bridge. These was historically a turning area here.
Craft can arrive by water or road as access via Navigation Road is good and boats could be slipped/craned to and from the water.
