  2. Overview

This route, a footpath which dates back to medieval times, defines a green access route from Burslem Port (and the rest of Middleport) to Burslem town centre. The road access options between Middleport and Burslem town centre are Navigation Road and Furlong Lane. The Burslem end of the route has been cleared in recent years and new development is proposed. The Middleport end of the route comes out right next to the wharf and warehouse and is convenient for the footbridge across the canal at East View.

Detailed description

Both of the roads are bounded by commercial premises and are dirty/unattractive routes, mainly due to the activity at Furlong Mills, which sits between these two roads. The main road route via Newcastle Street is much longer way around for walkers and no more interesting/attractive. This route along a green corridor should be promoted/improved as an access route between Middleport and Burslem. The majority of the route is grassed at present.
